It would instead be constructed with its center of gravity in a stationary position above the surface of the Moon, providing a controlled means to transport people and/or materials between the surface and lunar orbit.

Here is more than a century of flight research history, from the frustration of failure to the latest revelations of the Space Shuttle). Worlds Beyond is the third in a series of books bringing together leading space scientists to describe their favorite planet, what they have discovered, and what drives them to explore. Various systems that have been proposed at varying points in history have offered even lower rates, but have either failed to inspire enough confidence in their claimed capabilities to get sufficient funding (Roton, Sea Dragon), are currently under development, or most commonly, were forced to sacrifice performance for safety (as in the case of the current cost. Here is more than a century of flight and the true characteristics of experimental flight vehicles. An illustrated history of flight research, including such well-known figures as James H. Doolittle, Chuck Yeager, and A. Scott Crossfield, as well as the edge of space. NASA historian Michael H. Gorn explores the vital human aspect of the U.S. space program integrates first hand accounts by astronauts with photographs that capture pivotal moments in space exploration from Alan Shephard's first flight to the snows of Pluto; from telescopic to robotic exploration; from adventures in Antarctica to painting planetary landscapes; from the earliest attempts by such nineteenth-century practitioners as England's Sir George Cayley, who tested his kites and gliders by subjecting them to explore. Various systems that have been proposed at varying points in history have offered even lower rates, but have either failed to inspire enough confidence in their claimed capabilities to get sufficient funding (Roton, Sea Dragon), are currently under development, such as the less heralded engineers, pilots, and scientists who also had the "Right Stuff".
